A query from AE April, 2010 asked "I am trying to identify the origin of the name Delhi in Osborne County. Do you have any information on why the village/town was named Delhi? Is it named after the city in India or does it have some other origin?

OCGHS response: The rural post office and township of Delhi, Osborne County, Kansas were both named for Delhi, Vermont.

Query received from Ted, in May 2010, regarding Emmersons in Osborne County.

Response from OCGHS: This information is taken from the book Osborne County Kansas Burial 1866-2000 compiled by Von Rothenberger:
Reverend Nicholas EMMERSON - born October 3, 1823, died November 28, 1905; buried in Osborne Cemetery.  Nicholas was born at Stanhope, County Durham, England and was the son of John and Mary EMERSON. Nicholas added the second "m" to his surname.
Diana Jane Hannah Cowper EMMERSON - born November 26, 1826, died January 12, 1900; buried in Osborne Cemetery. Jane was born in Willington, County Durham, England, and was the daughter of Lancelot and Hannah COWPER. She married Nicholas EMMERSON sometime between 1853-1858 in England. Her sister Mary Barbara COWPER was Nicholas' first wife.  Also:
Albert Edward "Bert" EMMERSON, born January 19, 1869, died May 20, 1940, buried Osborne Cemetery. Bert was born in North Ormsby, Yorksire, England and was the son of Nicholas and Diana EMMERSON
Corris Hattie KESSEL EMMERSON- born August 28, 1875, died May 26, 1961, buried Osborne Cemetery. Corris was the daughter of John and Sarah KESSEL. She married Albert E. EMMERSON on December 13, 1898.
Gladys May EMMERSON - born February 26, 1912, died February 26, 1912, buried Osborne Cemetery. Gladys was the infant daughter of Albert and Corris EMMERSON.  The book is available from the Society Bookstore.

Query from A.W in Tennessee. My great-grandparents settled in the Liberty township of Osborne county. They were David and Jemima Emily Pennington Phillips. I was wondering if anyone had come across their graves. My research hasn't turned up anything on their deaths or burial.

OCGHS response: Nothing is found in the Osborne County Kansas Burials 1866-2000, compiled by Von Rothenberger, for David and Jemima Phillips. However, there are four children listed - Anna B., born 16 Jan 1877, died 23 Feb 1877; Isaac, born 14 Apr 1879, died 1 May 1886; John, born 30 Apr 1874, died 16 May 1874; and Thomas V., born 10 Sep 1886, died 18 Mar 1887 - all children of D and J PHILIP and all buried in the Bristow cemetery. A Jemima E. HAWKINS, born 25 Oct 1849, died 14 Feb 1900, is buried in the Natoma Cemetery.  Also, Osborne County, Kansas Nineteenth Century Marriages, 1872-1899, compiled by Von Rothenberger, has an entry for A. T. Hawkins and Jemima E. Phillips, January 31, 1892.   Both of these books are available from the Society Bookstore.

A bit of genealogy wisdom from a friend, Rick Gray in Tennessee. "Our ancestors need not to have been heroes and heroines to interest us; to have been hallowed by a blaze of glory in high spheres, in war, or in the council chamber for us to love them." Quoting Lord Lindsay from The Lives of the Lindsays.
