Recent Events

HerkConn2.jpg
For the past five years Larry "Herk" Conn has been working on transcribing nearly 50 years of county censuses, catching several thousand previously unknown names from the county's annual supplemental tax roll censuses from 1878 through 1925.  The first book of these annual censuses is nearing publication at last.

The last wooden tombstone still standing in Osborne County was that of child Carl Bryant Fay (1894-1895).  It was found toppled at last in the Downs Cemetery in November 2009 and brought to the Carnegie Research Library by Von Rothenberger.  Joe Hubbard constructed the woodframe display stand for it.
AmaziahShottsSmall.jpg
In May 2010 a descendant of Civil War veteran Amaziah Schotts visited the Carnegie to research his ancestors.  This photo of Amaziah was among the papers the descendant carried that were copied for the Carnegie's family research files.  The Carnegie also has extensive files on Osborne County military veterans.  The Society is constantly seeking additional information for both of these files, especially photographs.

Among recent materials given to the Carnegie is the Marion Darnell Photo Collection.  This collection includes photos of Marion Darnell during his service in Britain in World War II.  The above photo is that of Marion Darnell and fellow Osborne County native Ralph Bottorff, taken in London, England.
